Event organizers release COVID-19 guidelines to create a safe racing environment for all participants - CHICAGO – The Bank of America Chicago Marathon announced today that it will host some of the world’s best elite athletes as it prepares for the 43rd running of the event. In addition to previously announced Americans Galen Rupp and Sara Hall, Getaneh Molla (ETH), Seifu Tura (ETH), Ruth Chepngetich (KEN), Keira D’Amato (USA), and Emma Bates (USA) are among the stars headlining this year’s field. Local natives Chris Derrick (USA) and Lindsay Flanagan (USA) are also among the top athletes in this year’s field. Adding to the excitement, past champions Daniel Romanchuk (USA), Marcel Hug (SWI), Tatyana McFadden (USA), and Amanda McGrory (USA) will race for the victory in the elite wheelchair competition.

Olympian Jared Ward and United Airlines NYC Half champion Ben True to lead American men in the open division; Daniel Romanchuk and Manuela Schär will aim to defend wheelchair division titles - New York, August 19, 2021 – Olympic gold medalist Peres Jepchirchir of Kenya, Olympic silver medalist Abdi Nageeye of the Netherlands, and four-time Olympic medalist Kenenisa Bekele of Ethiopia will make their TCS New York City Marathon debuts on Sunday, November 7, joining a star-studded professional athlete lineup for the event’s 50th running.

Joyciline Jepkosgei took the GENERALI BERLIN HALF MARATHON with a spectacular course record of 65:16. The 27 year-old Kenyan smashed the mark of Dutch double Olympic Champion Sifan Hassan, who had won the race with 65:45 in 2019. Second-placed Kenyan Nancy Meto was just five seconds behind, improving her PB by more than three minutes. With 65:21 she was also inside the former course record. Valary Aiyabei completed the Kenyan podium with 67:32 for third place.

With $26,000 in U.S. championship prize money on offer as well as a $10,000 bonus for an American Record (the bonus will be split if both the male and female break the American records), road racing fans can look forward to hotly contested races among both the men and women.

The GENERALI BERLIN HALF MARATHON will be Germany’s first major international road race since the start of the coronavirus pandemic. World-class fields will feature the former world half marathon record holder Joyciline Jepkosgei and fellow-Kenyan Philemon Kiplimo. A total of 21,546 athletes from 140 countries have entered Sunday’s race. 20,774 of them will run the half marathon distance. The GENERALI BERLIN HALF MARATHON will be the first road race this year worldwide to feature around 20,000 participants.
