Avia Orange County Marathon Presented by Nutrilite

Nutrilite will serve as the presenting sponsor of the 4th annual Avia OC Marathon, which will take place on Sunday, January 6, 2008. Nutrilite, the world's leading brand of vitamin, mineral and dietary supplements*, has been firmly rooted in Buena Park, Calif. for more than 60 years. Its commitment to helping the community and Powell's presence could serve as great supplemental information for any health-related or OC Marathon stories you may be working on.
Powell will serve as the official race starter, as well as assist with the kids run. He'll also be signing autographs at Nutrilite's tent near the finish line. Powell shares the belief with Nutrilite that optimal health comes from good nutrition, including supplementation and exercise all the more reason to support the OC Marathon and its participants. More than 12,000 runners and 40,000 spectators will be at the marathon.
This event includes a marathon, half marathon, 5K, kids run and two-day expo. Most of the races start at 7:30 a.m. on January 6 in Newport Beach, Calif. and finish in Greater Irvine Spectrum. Nutrilite will have a booth at the two-day Health, Fitness and Nutrition Expo. The expo will be at the Hyatt Regency Irvine on January 4 from 4 to 8 p.m. and on January 5 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Team Nutrilite Coach and a Boston Marathon Winner, Greg Meyer, will be speaking at the expo with Nutritionist Lisa Goodwin, ND. on Friday at 7 p.m. and Saturday at 11a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Meyer will help people realize their full potential by giving foundational training tips and Lisa will give sports nutrition advice.

More than 50 health, lifestyle and sponsor booths will be on site, providing free samples, health screenings and information. The Health, Fitness & Nutrition Expo, will be a 2-day extravaganza at the Hyatt Regency Irvine, combining the latest running, health and training technology at discounted prices. Race participants can also pick up their packets during this time and take advantage of special discounts and sampling opportunities offered by various vendors, as well as listen to course descriptions and tips, meet some of your favorite running icons, such as Asafa Powell, Greg Meyer and four-time Boston Marathon and New York City Marathon winner Bill Rodgers! Powell, the World's Fastest Man, broke his 100m world record on Sunday, September 9, in Rieti, Italy, clocking a time of 9.74 seconds. He set the mark in the second of two heats and went on to win the final with a time of 9.78 seconds. Powell set the world record of 9.77 in 2005 in Athens and equaled the mark in 2006 in Gateshead and Zurich. Meyer is one of America's all-time great distance runners and is the last American to win the Boston Marathon (1983, 2:09:00). Throughout his career, Meyer held 10 American Road Racing records and two World records. Meyer is scheduled to speak on Friday, January 4 at 7:00 p.m. and Saturday, January 5 at 11:00 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Rodgers will speak on Saturday, January 5 at 1:00 p.m. and then will conduct a book signing after his training tips and Q&A session.
EXPECTED ATTENDANCE
More than 13,000 runners are expected to enter the multiple events of the OC Marathon. In addition, approximately 20,000 spectators will line the course and greet runners at the finish line area.
