ABOUT THE EVENT: The Los Angeles Marathon runs the “Challenge Bonus,” giving all elite runners a chance to win an additional $100,000 by being the first runner across the finish line, regardless of gender. The Challenge Bonus allows female runners to begin the race before the male runners in order to have the opportunity to finish the race at a similar time. The overall male and female elite winners will each receive $20,000 and a brand new car. Last year, Tatiana Aryasova of Russia won the Challenge Bonus and crossed the finish line before top men’s finisher, Laban Moiben of Kenya.
