New Champions Emerge at XTERRA Trail Run Worlds

More than 2,000 runners from 12 countries and 36 states participated in the event on an “Aloha from Hawaii” postcard-type of day at Kualoa Ranch; Running USA's Nancy Hobbs wins 5K - KUALOA RANCH, Oahu, Hawaii - (November 24, 2013) - Patrick Smyth (right) found his way in the sport of trail running, and Polina Babkina found her way at Kualoa Ranch. As a result, both ran away as the new champions of the XTERRA Trail Run World Championship.

San Jose, Calif. — November 19, 2013 — After an anticipated 28,000 recreational runners burn off pre-holiday-dinner calories at the Applied Materials “Silicon Valley Turkey Trot” on Thanksgiving Day in downtown San Jose, more than 60 elite runners will compete in one of the fastest and most competitive 5-kilometer (3.1 miles) races in the world. Elite athletes representing five countries will toe the starting line including a half dozen current and former Olympians, 10 women with 5K personal bests under 15:30 (5-minutes per mile pace), and nine men with personal bests under 13:45 (4:26 per mile pace).

5K Participants will get to “Chase The Pig” for Awards and BBQ - SAN LUIS OBISPO, CA – Mo’s Smokehouse BBQ, one of the most popular and long-standing restaurants in San Luis Obispo, Pismo Beach and Chico, CA, has signed on as the Presenting Sponsor of the SLO Marathon 5K race. The new “Chase the Pig 5K” presented by Mo’s Smokehouse BBQ will take place on Saturday, April 26, 2014 during the San Luis Obispo Marathon + Half Marathon weekend. Race organizers expect more than 1000 participants for the 2014 race.

Members of the AmeriKenyan Running Club dominated the top spots at today’s Big Sur Half Marathon on Monterey Bay.  Jacob Chemtai, 26, nearly broke the course record with a blistering time of 1:02:44.  His teammate, Nelson Oyugi, 21, finished just six seconds behind at 1:02:50.  The top two female runners, Sarah Kiptoo, 24, and Everlyne Lagat, 32, Kenyans from the same running club, finished at 1:11:21 and 1:13:49.  Both male and female times were the second-fastest ever in this race, now in its 11th year.
