Second edition hosted by HomeFed and PG&E drew more than 1,000 runners and featured four challenging trail run courses – 50 mile ultra, marathon, half-marathon and 5 mile – at pristine, private Wild Cherry Canyon in Avila Beach; post-event Race SLO Dirt Festival celebrated with live bluegrass music, beverages, food & fun; event beneficiary The Land Conservancy of San Luis Obispo County - AVILA BEACH, Calif. – (September 9, 2017) – On Saturday under cool, overcast morning weather and later sunny, warm conditions at private, pristine Wild Cherry Canyon, Franz van der Groen, 33, San Rafael, CA, 7:12:04 and Michele Van Ornum, 48, Fresno, CA won the 2nd SLO Ultra 50 Mile in 7 hours, 12 minutes, 4 seconds and 9:27:22, respectively. For Van Ornum, the victory was also her debut for the distance.
Eliud Kipchoge confirmed his position as the world’s strongest marathon runner by taking a dramatic win in the BMW BERLIN-MARATHON. The Kenyan clocked a world leading time of 2:03:32, but in difficult weather conditions with rain and high humidity the world record set by Kenya’s Dennis Kimetto in Berlin in 2014 with 2:02:57 was out of reach in the final part of the race. While top stars Kenenisa Bekele of Ethiopia and Kenya’s Wilson Kipsang did not manage to finish a debutant caused a major surprise: Guye Adola of Ethiopia was leading the race until close to the 40 k mark, when Olympic Champion Kipchoge came from behind and then surged ahead. Adola clocked 2:03:46 for second place, which is the fastest debut ever recorded on a record eligible course. Fellow-Ethiopian Mosinet Geremew took third place in 2:06:12. For the second time after 2015 Gladys Cherono took Germany’s most spectacular running event. The Kenyan clocked a world-class time of 2:20:23 after suffering in the final stages. Ruti Aga of Ethiopia was second in 2:20:41, while Kenya’s Valary Aiyabei took third with 2:20:53.
The 2017 New Balance 5th Avenue Mile featured more than 7,500 runners streaming down the east side of Central Park, the largest field in the event's 37-year history. With the biggest field to date, the race's professional athletes provided historic performances to match, with Jenny Simpson extending her record for most wins in event history to six, and Nick Willis tying the men's record with his fourth win.

Hot weather and Oregon fires threatened to impact the race but morning temperatures were in the low 60’s and the smoky haze that crept up from Southern Oregon kept the sun from beating down on the runners - CARLTON, Ore. (September 6, 2017) – Bernard Lagat, 22, of Kabarnet, Kenya, took the lead from the start of the Oregon Wine Country Half Marathon at Stoller Family Estate, and was never seriously challenged on this scenic course that runs through the Willamette Valley. Lagat, who is staying in the Portland area for three weeks while he continues to train, broke the tape with a time of one hour, eight minutes, 48 seconds. Patrick Goeghegan, of Portland finished over three minutes back with a 1:11:52, just ahead of 3rd place finisher Todd Williams of Portland who ran a 1:12:04.

Japan’s Mao Ichiyama finishes strong with first-place in women’s division - VIRGINIA BEACH – September 3, 2017 – The number one on Jeffrey Eggleston’s race bib at the Rock ‘n’ Roll Virginia Beach Half Marathon today was symbolic of the place he stood on the podium afterward: the top. The 32-year old blazed the scenic course along the Virginia Beach oceanfront in an incredible one hour, five minutes, and 55 seconds. Although warm temps were forecasted for Sunday’s race, the thermometer at the start read in the high 60s, which made for a great day of racing along one of the most appealing race courses in the United States.
