A “titanic clash” on tap in San Diego

Boston Marathon winner Rita Jeptoo goes head-to-head with London Marathon winner Edna Kiplagat at the San Diego Half-Marathon next month - The Suja Rock 'n' Roll San Diego Half-Marathon will feature a mouthwatering head-to-head match-up pitting this year’s Boston Marathon champion Rita Jeptoo against reigning London Marathon champion Edna Kiplagat on 1 June.

BOSTON – The Boston Athletic Association (B.A.A.) today announced an elite field of Olympic Games and IAAF World Championships medalists and returning champions for the 2014 B.A.A. 5K, to be held on Saturday, April 19, two days prior to the 2014 Boston Marathon®. The 2014 B.A.A. 5K will have a field size of 10,000 entrants and will start and finish at Boston Common. The race is sold out. A prize purse of $39,900 (USD) will be awarded equally to the top male and female finishers. In addition, professional runners are eligible for a $5,000 (USD) bonus for event record times established at the B.A.A. 5K. Bonus incentives will also be available for professional runners for multiple top finishes at B.A.A. events in 2014.

Gebremeskel, Bleasdale Win 29th Carlsbad 5000

For the Danish Athletic Federation, they sponsored the largest running event EVER in Denmark, with 30,000 runners in the half marathon, and 202  elite runners in their first World Championships of Athletics in Denmark. For the IAAF, their "bold experiment" should be de rigeur for all of their athletics events: a peoples' race  and road championships could be part of every and any championships.

Santa Barbara Wine Country Half Marathon is Sold-Out

VIP packages still available for popular Santa Ynez Valley race held on Mother's Day weekend - SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – The Santa Barbara Wine Country Half Marathon, presented by Newton Running, is now sold out, announced the event producer Destination Races (www.destinationraces.com/runsb/).  Now in its eighth year, this popular Mother’s Day weekend event features a scenic 13.1-mile course running from downtown Santa Ynez through Los Olivos into Solvang.  The race is scheduled for Saturday, May 10.  Last years sold-out race attracted 3,400 runners and wine enthusiasts from 43 states and six foreign countries to the valley.

Event leads off the Bay Area Based “Run the Bay Challenge” Series - The San Jose 408k “Race to the Row” will host its 3rd annual event benefiting the Pat Tillman Foundation.  The 2014 event expects to attract over 5,000 runners to tackle the 8k distance in celebration of the 408 area code.  Starting at the SAP Center, runners cruise on this point-to-point course down the Alameda, through the Rose Garden and into the Santana Row finish festival.
