The IAAF Global Running Conference was held May 31-June 1 in Lanzhou, China. At the conference, over 600 delegates learned about the state of the sport, where trends are globally and were provided some new research on the sport. The IAAF hosted a convention on global running in Lanzou, China, on May 31-June 2. Over 600 delegates went to the event and the IAAF released a study on running research, plus some fine discussions. We hope to get the transcripts to those events, and will post. We will post the research from the RunRepeat.com, in a separate post.
RunBlogRun's Larry Eder was denied entry into China by the Chicago Chinese Visa office for the event, due to his status as a credentialed Journalist in Beijing in 2008 and 2015. Story will be posted on that lovely experience soon.

Spokane, Washington—Last year Ethiopians had their way over the 12-kilometer course, as they went one-two in both the men's and women's divisions of the Lilac Bloomsday Run. But this year Kenya was back in the forefront, as Rosemary Wanjiru led four other Kenyans to the line in the women's race, while it took some determined running by Tanzania's Gabriel Geay to foil a similar sweep in the men's division. Geay, who notched his second Bloomsday victory in three tries, was chased to the line by five Kenyan men.
Last Sunday, Ed Cheserek, to the delight of his fans and of his sponsor, Skechers, took the win in Carlsbad. His time of 13:29 was a WR equalling event, as the IAAF began recognizing road WRs in 2019.

The BAA Invite Mile has become an institution in Boston. On Boston Saturday, the Invite Mile is part of the Boston Marathon Weekend. It has become a big fan favorite. James O'Brien is also the publisher of the New York Athletic Club publication, Wingfoot, one of the oldest and most prestigious athletic club publications in North America.
The BAA 5K has developed into a key event of the BAA Boston Marathon weekend. The event had 8,484 runners competing in the Back Bay of Boston, held on Saturday morning before the Boston marathon. The elite race features some of the finest American, Ethiopian and Kenyan athletes at the distance, and gets Boston Saturday started.

Kenya’s Stephen Kiprop continued where he left off last year by winning the Ras Al Khaimah Half Marathon on Friday (8) in an equal course record of 58:42, moving to joint sixth on the world all-time list. In a close women’s race, Senbere Teferi won in 1:05:45, the fastest debut half marathon time in history, with just one second separating the top three finishers.

Stephanie Bruce to line up in New York to defend her USATF 10 km title at the world’s original women-only road race - New York, January 17, 2019 – The NYRR New York Mini 10K, the world’s original women-only road race, will serve as this year’s USATF 10 km Championships for women on Saturday, June 8, New York Road Runners announced today. More than 200,000 women have finished the race since it began in 1972, making it one of the most impactful women’s races in running history, and it will be the first time it plays host to a national championship race.
The Carlsbad 5000 is one of the iconic races that only could be held on the West Coast. This race has had a history of fast racers and fine runners, and large fields. The challenges to the race have been the new ownership in the past year, which did not give the event the promotion that it deserved. Athletes such as Meseret Defar and Tirunesh Dibaba have run world records and world best times on the streets of Carlsbad.
Des Linden has been busy all summer and fall. And, it has not stopped. This last weekend, Desi was in San Antonio, Texas, for one of her sponsors, Rock 'n Roll series. At San Antonio, Des was running the half marathon with two of her biggest fans, who won a contest put together by the race series.
