Sheila E. Performs at 5th Annual Oakland Running Festival

(Oakland, CA) March 25, 2014– Oakland's own Sheila E. made a surprise appearance on the Main Stage of the Oakland Running Festival (ORF) on Sunday, March 23rd to shoot the video for her new song 'Fiesta' and congratulate event participants! World-class drummer and percussionist Sheila Escovedo is scheduled to release her first solo album in twelve years, Icon, on March 25 as part of the celebration of her 40th anniversary in the music business.

Sports marketing and event management company Corrigan Sports Enterprises (CSE) announced an event record field of 9,768runners competed at the fifth annual (ORF). Race officials estimate the event generated around $4 million in economic impact and raised up to $400,000 for local charities.

The men's marathon title was captured in a convincing fashion by 30-year-old Eulogio Rodriguez from Whittier, CA in a time of2:30:23. He finished more than 10 minutes ahead of the second place finisher.

Oakland resident Kris Klotzbach brought home the women's marathon crown with a time of 3:05:23. Both winners walked home with $500 and a pair of round-trip air fare tickets to Hawaii courtesy of Hawaiian Airlines.

Other famous Oakland faces were on hand including Warriors' legend Alvin Attles, two-time Olympic gold-medalist Jim Hines, Mayor Jean Quan, Raiderettes, and the Warriors Girls. Dean "Ultramarathon Man" Karanazes also competed in the field while sporting bib No. 1.

The festival consisted of numerous distances: marathon, Kaiser Permanente Half-Marathon, Hawaiian Airlines Four-Person Team Relay, Bank of the West 5K and Lucky Kids Fun Run.

The marathon course itself featured 10 bands, 11 DJ's, six cheer stations, three dance groups, and the fifth consecutive appearance from Oakland Raider Nation fans dressed in their game day attire on 30th Street.

Lee Corrigan, president of Corrigan Sports Enterprises, said, "Everything that's great about Oakland was on display today. You'll be hard pressed to find a group of citizens any where in the country who are more proud of their city and supportive of runners than right here in Oakland. It was simply another amazing day for this dynamic city."
