Mo Farah Sets 2 European Records in Lisbon

British running star Mo Farah won the 25th jubilee edition of Lisbon Meia Maratona du Lisboa in new European record 59:32. The previous mark of Spanish Fabian Roncero is 59:52 from Berlin 2001.  The race started fast with an impressive pace of Wilson Too who clocked 21:44 at 8k before Kogo, Kibet, and Adola took the lead. Farah was back some 12 seconds. In second half, he speeded up and won ahead of Micah Kogo 59:33 and Stephen Kibet 59:58. Ethiopian Guye Adola was fourth 1:00:45. Best Portugal runner was Ricardo Ribas as 14th in 1:04:23. Farah was absolutely satisfied:

“What I did in last part was very comfortable for me and I was sure to close slowly km by km. Crowd in Lisbon was amazing and they cheered me all the race. It is a nice birthday present for tomorrow. For me next two years the focus goes for track only with some road activity, but the longest will be half marathon. About marathon I will think after Rio."

The 20 km split 56:27 was another European record for Farah, for the moment EA has no official mark here, this could be the first one.  Rose Chelimo clocked PB 1:08:22 to be the best woman. Always sure of herself, she mostly led the race alone. Second in great 1:09:18 personal best home runnner Sara Moreira over Kenyan Priscah Jeptoo 1:09:21. Another top Portugal position for Ana Dulce Felix as 5th 1:10:27. More than 35 000 runners in well organized competition in Lisbon.
